Mogadishu Recovery -- The rest of the story...
On October 3rd 1993, in Mogadishu Somalia Task Force Ranger with augmentation from Delta Force was engaged in a fierce fire fight with Somali rebels after they had shot down a Black Hawk helicopter and the rebels had killed several Delta personnel and were dragging their nude lifeless bodies through the streets in a victory dance and celebration and had also taken CWO Durant Prisoner. CWO Durant was later released.
Riding in one of the HUMV's en route to attempt to rescue and recover the bodies of the Delta personnel, was MSG Timothy Martin from Delta Force, Tim was a former member of C Company, 2nd Bn, 10th SFG, ODA 232 Fort Devens Ma. His HUMV was hit with an RPG and caused severe wounds to Tim and his fellow Delta and 75th Ranger personnel, as well as, killing several others. Tim was evacuated back to the Ranger Base camp where the medical personnel were unable to save his life. While assigned to ODA 232, C/2/10th SFG, Fort Devens Ma, Tim was a very good and outstanding soldier.John Griffin ( SFA-72) was on ODA 232 with Tim, John and Ike Isola (SFA-72) and others lost a very good and close friend that day, a true Special Forces Soldier. A movie was made of this action called "Black Hawk Down"; there is also several books written about the incident. For the members of Delta and the 75th Rangers, it's a part of history they wish to forget. MSG Gordon was in C/ 2/ 10 at the same time as Tim, though he was on ODA 233 for several years. He also served in 1/10 at Bad Tolz before being selected for Delta. The members of SFA-72 salute MSG Tim Martin and others who made the ultimate sacrifice, as well as, all the other soldiers who participated in the rescue.
